![]() Recently we discovered a new physical gain mechanism, Cycling Excitation Process (CEP), to multiply the photo-generated signal in heavily doped, highly compensated, p-n junction 6- 7. Impact ionization has been the most common and effective internal amplification mechanism over the past decades. The detection sensitivity can be significantly improved if the detector can produce sufficient internal gain to overcome thermal noise of electronic amplifiers. ![]() Signal amplification is fundamental to all optoelectronic systems because weak photocurrent signals need to be preamplified to reduce detection errors 1- 5. ![]()
